Why?

Supporting pre-college students is one goal of the current Library as Instructional Leader LSTA Grant. This workshop will provide time and training for librarians and their pre-college colleagues to plan integrated information literacy instruction for the pre-college curriculum.

Mini-grants will be available for those who want to implement assessments for this and other collaborative IL instruction efforts. Colleges may also apply to participate in a cross-college research project on IL in the pre-college curriculum.

How?

November 5, 2009 Update: This workshop is full. To be added to the waiting list, please email Lynn Kanne, grant coordinator at lkanne@sccd.ctc.edu.

Travel: Reimbursement is available for transportation and lodging within the state guidelines. You are responsible for following your college's travel procedure.  We strongly encourage ridesharing because parking is limited. One hotel that has been recommended is the Fairfield Mariott.

Stipends & substitutes: Funds are available to provide substitutes if needed during your absence. Part-time faculty attending outside of their paid working hours may request stipends (based on $45/hr including benefits - maximum $270).

Requesting Reimbursement

Each college library is responsible for submitting a single reimbursement request by December 11, 2009. The reimbursement request must include a signature from a library director or dean.

Individuals can be reimbursed by your library either before or after the reimbursement check is received depending on your local arrangements.

Since internal procedures vary at each college, we cannot advise you on how to claim your reimbursement, but your library administrator should be able to help you with that process. If you have an outstanding reimbursement, check with your college library about your claim.

Workshop Readings

Please read the following documents in preparation for the workshop:

  1. Statement on Integrative Learning (AACU)
  2. A New Era in Learning-Community Work: Why the Pedagogy of Intentional Integration Matters (Emily Lardner & Gillies Malnarich - Change Magazine July-August 2008)
