My goals is to have them pay some attention to the structure and content of reference books we give them. We also ask for some evaluation of those sources in the mini-speech at the end of this session that allows me to do my assessment (I give them the evaluation criteria).

• Sue Gallaway's Reference Tools for English 102 Students access print and online reference resources. Students had already worked extensively on topic selection and development. The outcome of this assignment was for them to find relevant reference material and access information on their topics in them. Next time I will use this exercise as preparation of periodical databases by having them identify keywords they learned from the reference resources.
