2010-2011

Winter/Spring 10-11

Winter: SCC (Spokane CC) and SFCC (Spokane Falls CC) collaborated on a complementary project. SFCC held an IL showcase where librarians and discipline faculty demonstrated IL activities and assessments. SCC held a workshop on WASSAIL (open-source IL assessment tool). Both events were open to all in the Community Colleges of Spokane; the WASSAIL training was open to Colleges in the state and the area.

Spring: SCC librarians worked with faculty whose courses had significant Rising Junior populations. We collaborated to create and administer either a survey or an IL assessment using WASSAIL.

APLED

Winter: Librarians collaborated with Applied Education instructors to create an IL project where technical writing students from all vocational/technical programs were required to find trade journals core to their field, then select articles from those journals to be used later in the practice of technical writing skills (analyzing audience, summarizing, etc.). Students were also asked to identify key professional organizations in their fields and check for association publications, in addition to using library databases & collections, and asking experts.

Spring: The project was piloted. Pre- and post-tests were given and feedback from students and faculty collected.

BIOLOGY 160

Winter: Two Biology faculty and one librarian teamed to create an Information Literacy Lab exercise which is to be integrated into the new revision of the Biology Lab Manual. The IL exercise, known as Lab 11, will be used in all the college's BIOL160 courses.

Spring: The project was piloted. Pre- and post-tests were given and feedback from students and faculty collected.
